One of the toughest things about selling your Knoxville home is dealing with showings. The tough thing about showings is that they can happen at any time with very little notice. For many sellers, the unpredictability of showings can be stressful.
So, how do you sell your home and keep your sanity while dealing with showings?
We’ve prepared a quick no-nonsense guide to preparing for showings on your Knoxville home.
When you have a massive weekly to do list to keep your house in order for showings, it can be daunting to even start the list.
Instead of trying to tackle every task on your to do list, try to break the tasks up to make them more manageable. Try dividing up tasks based on their category. For example, clean your bathrooms one day, vacuum floors another day, and take care of cleaning your floors another day. Or, take care of downstairs tasks one day and your upstairs tasks another day.
When you break up the tasks into more manageable chunk, it makes them seem less overwhelming. They also take less time out of your day, which makes you more motivated to complete them. When you’ve completed your list of tasks, reward yourself with something. When you have something to look forward to, you’re more likely to complete a task.
One of the hardest things about showing is having to keep up with the day to day mess. Dishes can pile up in the sink. Mail can pile up on the counter. And, laundry can quickly cover up the floor. When all of these items add up, it can be hard to prepare for a last minute showing.
The trick is to keep up with messes as they happen on a daily basis. As much of a pain as it can be to keep up with messes on a daily basis, it will make showings less stressful. When you get a call for a last minute showing, your home will already be ready. There will be no last minute running around in a panic.
When you’re selling your home, you want it to look its best. For many sellers, this means making sure the home is cleaner than normal and that the yard is well-maintained at all times. This can be a lot of extra work for some sellers, which is why it may help to get some additional help.
If you’re struggling to keep up with the weekly cleaning, consider hiring a cleaning company to help out with the workload. Even having a cleaning company come every other week or once a month to help do a good clean can be a big help.
Yard work is another chore that can be hard to keep up with, especially during the warmer months. If you have trouble keeping up with the mowing and the weeding, a lawn company can be a huge asset. Many of these companies are very affordable if they come cut your yard once a week.
Pets are another thing that many sellers need help with during showings. If your dog doesn’t like to be caged, it can be hard to deal with last minute showings. Consider putting your dog in doggy day care on days that you have showings. Or, if you have a friend or family member that can come pick up your pet during showings, it can be helpful to utilize them as well.
Dealing with showings can be tough, especially when you work. There is nothing wrong with getting a little bit of help.
There will be certain days where you inevitably aren’t ready for a showing. There will be one day where you’re slammed with work and don’t keep up with something in your house. Of course, you’ll get a last minute showing and be frantic to get the house ready.
So, what do you do in this situation?
You do your very best to get your home ready as possible. If there is a large mess, clean it up as quickly as possible. Stash clothes on the floor into a drawer. Keep unfolded laundry in the dryer. Rinse dishes quickly and stick them in the dishwasher. Clean up any other visible messes as quickly as possible.
While it’s not ideal, a quick clean up is sometimes the best you can do.
