Knoxville pet owners love their pets. Unfortunately, our beloved pets can the the cause of some not so pretty odors. If you’re thinking about selling your Knoxville home, it can be helpful to combat these odors prior to putting your Knoxville home on the market. Here is how to get pet smells out of carpet.
Clean Up Accidents Quickly
For any accidents that happen, be sure they get cleaned up quickly, if possible. Soak up pet urine with a paper towel by pressing down firmly on the spot or by walking over the paper towels to absorb as much possible. To clean the stain, use a little detergent and water and go over with a damp rag.
Neutralize Odors
To best neutralize the odor of pet urine, combine a mixture of one part white vinegar and one part water. Vinegar can help neutralize the smell of urine without damaging the carpet. Pour the solution over the area where the accident occurred and allow to sit for 10 minutes. Then, use a paper towel or rag to soak up the solution. Once the carpet is almost dry, sprinkle a little baking soda over the area, allow to sit for 15 minutes, then vacuum up the baking soda with a vacuum. This should get the smell out.
Keep Pets Clean
Pet odors can also be caused by dirty pets. Be sure that you bath your pets on a regular basis, depending on the animal. In addition, if pets require grooming, be sure to keep them groomed to help prevent odors.
