When the unexpected happens during a real estate transaction, it can be scary and stressful. Home inspections can often be the source of unexpected situations. When something is found wrong with a home that requires repairs, as a seller, it can be nerve-wracking and stressful. Here is what to do if you get a bad Knoxville home inspection.
First, it can be important to take a step back from the situation. Unfortunately, bad home inspections can happen and there is nothing that can be done to change the situation. Not all home inspection issues are detrimental to a real estate transaction if both sides are willing to cooperate.
Once you’ve had the time to let the findings of the home inspection sink it, you’ve got some decisions to make. Depending on what the inspection found, the buyer may want to renegotiate the price or ask for a list of things to be repaired. As a seller, this can be difficult because repairs and a change in price can cut into your bottom line, which is always hard to accept. While this may be hard, you’ve go to consider if it’s better to walk away or just to suck it up and make the repairs or take the lower price. The reality is that if you really want to sell your Knoxville home, the issues are going to need to be fixed at some point. Even with a different buyer, an inspector is likely going to pick out the same issues.
Finally, while dealing with a bad home inspection is painful, it is something beyond your control and something that has to be worked through in order to close on the home. Pitching a fit and be unwilling to negotiate isn’t going to make the situation any better. Find a way to work through the situation and move on from it.
