Downtown Knoxville has three main areas the Gay Street area, Market Square, and the Old City. Each of these areas has its own unique flair and are surely worth exploring as a Knoxville resident. Market Square is a pedestrian mall located in downtown Knoxville. It has a wide array of entertainment, dining, and unique shops. When the weather is nice, Market Square is a popular location for outdoor concerts, live plays, and festivals.
Things Not To Miss:
Live Entertainment – Be sure to pay attention when the weather is nice for what concerts/entertainment is happening in Market Square. Take a seat on one of the many restaurant patios and enjoy.
Cafe 4 – Famous for its Chicken and Waffles, Cafe 4 is worth checking out if you’re in the Market Square area.
Preservation Pub – Enjoy the live music or take in a nice night on the rooftop bar, Preservation Pub is great for a mellow night out.
Gay Street
When you think of downtown Knoxville, you tend to think of Gay Street. Home to the Mast General Store, the movie theater, and countless restaurants, it is a staple to downtown Knoxville.
Things Not To Miss:
Regal Cinemas – Enjoy dinner and a movie at Knoxville’s downtown movie theater.
Downtown Grill and Brewery – Known for their homemade beers and delicious food. A definite Downtown Knoxville must.
Mast General Store – Truly a unique shopping experience with everything from hiking gear to candy and beyond.
The Old City is a historic district in Knoxville, with several buildings registered in the National Register of Historic Places. It is home to many bars, restaurants and shops.
Things Not To Miss:
Crown and Goose – Enjoy dinner or drinks at this unique English Pub. When the weather is nice, the beer garden is worth checking out.
Barley’s Taproom and Pizzeria – Located in a historic building in the Old City, Barley’s is a Knoxville staple. It has a huge beer selection and delicious pizzas. Great for a casual night out, too, with its upper floors offering pool tables and darts and live music on the first floor.
